Sonia Story
The importance of innate infant movements for neurodevelopmental challengesĀ
Sonia Story teaches the Brain and Sensory Foundations® program, a curriculum she developed to provide in-depth, comprehensive training in integrative and neurodevelopmental movements. Sonia’s unique curriculum includes movements to release stress, innate rhythmic movements, play, and primitive and postural reflexes that are foundational for addressing sensory, learning, physical, behavioral, emotional, social, and speech challenges.
Sonia has reviewed over 1600 case studies demonstrating efficacy by Brain and Sensory FoundationsĀ® students including parents, occupational and physical therapists, SLPs, mental health therapists, trauma specialists, educators, and health practitioners. Sonia is the author of a white paper and eBook giving the relevance, rationale, and evidence basis for using innate neurodevelopmental movements for helping children and adults with challenges such as ASD, SPD, ADHD, and speech delay.
Sonia studied innate neurodevelopmental movements with Harald Blomberg, MD; Moira Dempsey; Jon Bredal, Svetlana Masgutova; Mary Kawar, OT; and other instructors. While earning certifications to teach Rhythmic Movement Training (RMTi) and other movement courses, Sonia maintained a private practice using these tools—first to overcome her own challenges with sensory issues and anxiety—then for helping individuals of all ages.
Sonia was a presenter at the 2018 Autism One conference on how innate neurodevelopmental movements help with sensory issues. Sonia’s work has been featured in the book, Almost Autism: Recovering Children from Sensory Processing Disorder, and in the books Special Ed Mom Survival Guide; Family Health Revolution; and Same Journey, Different Paths, Stories of Auditory Processing Disorder.
Sonia is currently enrolled in a Master's Program in Movement Science at the University of Idaho.
